News Segment Showcased Patient Care at The Center for Weight Loss Surgery
Saint Clare’s Health System was featured on WNBC News, showcasing the care that patient Tina McGrath received at The Center for Weight Loss Surgery, located at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Dover, while undergoing surgery as a treatment option for diabetes. To view the news segment, please click here.
The story aired on Friday, August 6 during the 11 p.m. broadcast, and featured a glimpse inside the operating room as McGrath underwent a partial bariatric bypass procedure. Dr. Alexander Abkin, Co-Medical Director, Bariatric and General Surgeon performed the surgery and, in an interview with WNBC, spoke on the positive clinical outcome following gastric bypass surgery for the morbidly obese patient with type 2 diabetes, specifically a complete remission of the condition. According to the American Diabetes Association’s website, weight loss surgeries such as gastric bypass and gastric banding result in both weight loss of significant magnitude and remission of type 2 diabetes in up to 80 percent of cases.
