Our Services
Saint Clare’s gynecologic oncologists provide state-of-the-art cancer care for women, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions. Saint Clare’s offers treatment of the following forms of gynecologic cancers:

Ovarian cancer
Cancer that starts in the ovaries is called ovarian cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer in women.

If you are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Saint Clare’s cancer care team will discuss a treatment plan that's best for your needs. Treatment options may include surgery to remove the ovaries and surrounding tissue and organs (this includes minimally-invasive robotic surgery), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Endometrial (uterine) cancer
Endometrial cancer forms in the tissue lining the uterus, which is a pear-shaped organ in the pelvis where a fetus grows. In the United States, approximately 42,000 women each year are diagnosed with uterine cancer - the most common malignancy of the female genital tract and the fourth most common cancer in women.

The prognosis and treatment options for cancer of the uterus depend on several factors, such as the stage of the cancer. If your healthcare provider determines that hysterectomy is the best treatment option, the cancer care program at Saint Clare’s offers a new, minimally-invasive approach through the use of robotic surgery.

Benefits of a hysterectomy performed using robotic surgery through the da Vinci Surgical System – known as a da Vinci Hysterectomy – include significantly less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter recovery time, a faster return to normal daily activities, and in many cases, better clinical outcomes. Read more about minimally-invasive robotic surgery at Saint Clare’s, or click here to learn about da Vinci Hysterectomy.

Cervical cancer
Cervical cancer forms in the tissues of the cervix, the organ connecting the uterus and vagina. Regular screening through Pap tests can help to prevent cervical cancer; if a pre-cancer is found, it can be treated at an early stage, stopping cervical cancer before it really starts. Still, the American Cancer Society estimates that in 2010 there will be about 12,200 new cases of invasive cervical cancer diagnosed in the United States.

If you are diagnosed with cervical cancer, Saint Clare’s cancer care team will discuss a treatment plan that's best for your needs. Treatment options may include surgery (this includes minimally-invasive robotic surgery), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Vulvar cancer
Vulvar cancer affects the external part of the female reproductive system. According to the American Cancer Society, in the United States, vulvar cancer accounts for about 4 percent of cancers of the female reproductive organs

While vulvar cancer is relatively rare, Saint Clare’s cancer care team is experienced in treating this type of cancer, and provides patients with the latest in diagnostics, treatments and procedures. Treatment options may include surgery (this includes minimally-invasive robotic surgery), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Our Treatment and Technology
We recognize the importance for patients to be seen quickly by our specialists so we offer rapid turnaround in getting patients into the office, determine the needed course of treatment, and getting started on the course of treatment quickly.

Our accomplished medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons and other cancer care experts provide access to the most advanced procedures and technology available, including:

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a mixture of drugs that treat cancer systemically. Saint Clare's offers chemotherapy services through accomplished medical oncologists. Our Outpatient Infusion Center is a comfortable environment where you can receive treatments for chemotherapy, hydration and transfusion services ordered by our expert medical oncologists. Read more about this treatment option on our website’s Patient Care Services page.

Radiation Therapy
Saint Clare’s offers the region’s most advanced radiation treatment and technology for various types of cancers. Our accomplished radiation oncologists utilize the following treatment protocols and therapy delivery technologies: RapidArc® Therapy, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy. Read more about this treatment option on our website’s Patient Care Services page.

Minimally Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopy)
While there are a range of non-invasive treatment options available to women to relieve symptoms of benign conditions or to slow the growth of gynecologic cancers, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment option for a range of gynecologic conditions.

Cancer care treatment options at Saint Clare’s include minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedures to treat pre-cancerous conditions and cervical cancer.

da Vinci Robotic Surgery
Patients can now turn to Saint Clare's for surgical procedures that help to improve patient outcomes and redefine today's standard of care with minimally invasive surgery through robotic surgery using the da Vinci ® S Surgical System.

To date, tens of thousands of procedures have been performed worldwide using this advanced surgical technology, including those to address medical needs in areas like general surgery, urology, and gynecology. Saint Clare’s advanced surgical treatment options for gynecologic cancers include da Vinci Robotic Hysterectomy, the most precise, minimally invasive hysterectomy available today. The da Vinci ® S Surgical System, a breakthrough surgical platform which enables gynecologists to operate with unmatched precision, dexterity and control, offers many benefits to patients including less pain, minimal blood loss and need for transfusions, shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery and return to normal activities, and small incisions for minimal scarring. Hormonal Therapy
Hormone therapy is a form of systemic therapy that is often used to help decrease the risk of cancer returning after surgery. Both drugs and surgical procedures can be used to change hormone levels.

Clinical Trials
Saint Clare’s Health System and Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) have established a partnership between their cancer programs that enhances the state-of-the-art level of cancer care offered to the Saint Clare’s community. Through the affiliation, Saint Clare’s patients have access to clinical trials that are currently spearheaded by HUMC doctors; the HUMC cancer program participates in more than 100 international and national cancer clinical trials that give patients access to promising investigational medications, treatment protocols, and surgical techniques that are often not available at other facilities in New Jersey. Learn more about clinical trials available through Saint Clare’s.

In addition to traditional medicine, we also offer complementary medicine, nutritional counseling, genetic counseling, community outreach and education programs, and other supportive services to help cancer patients and their families cope with the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges posed by cancer.

Our Cancer Care Team
Our accomplished team of healthcare professionals in the treatment of gynecologic oncology include oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, nurse navigators, and oncology professionals.
