Franciscan Oaks Culinary Challenge

The Franciscan Oaks Culinary Challenge is a competition among four local chefs.  It’s also a chance for you to taste lots of great food, and afterwards, to explore this wonderful retirement community.

Sponsored jointly by Franciscan Oaks and the Denville Chamber of Commerce, the cook-off features a format similar to that of a culinary school final exam. Each contestant will receive a mystery basket from which to create a showcase entrée, which is then rated by three celebrity judges. Culinary vendor booths and free food samples complete the fun.  It’s a perfect antidote to the January blahs. So come prepared to cheer on your favorite chef, then taste and tour at Franciscan Oaks.

Chefs will include:

  • Flavio Ferreira, Sogo Hibachi Restaurant
Born and raised in Portugal, also serves as an international culinary consultant
  • Miguel Garrido,  The Rattlesnake Ranch
A native of Guatemala, with The Rattlesnake since 2003
  • Amy McEntee, Denville Seafood & Codmother’s Cafe
Grew up cooking in her family’s restaurant, an ardent fan of “Iron Chef”
  • Joseph Pane, Franciscan Oaks
A Culinary Institute of America graduate and former food stylist for The Food Network

Reservations are required. Please RSVP to 1-800-237-3330.

What Our Residents Say

"On first visiting the Oaks,I found many different aspects which were very impressive, from the very convenient location so close to the center of town and shopping, the excellent design of the building and wings, the variety of contract entrance plans from which to choose, the closeness of the medical care facilities and doctors if needed, etc... However, the underlying atmosphere of sincere interest and concern for the welfare of the residents as exhibited by the staff was the paramount factor binding together all the other positive impressions."
