Provider Partners with Saint Clare's Health System on Inpatient Hospice Care Unit in Sussex

10/09/2007

SUSSEX, NJ - Saint Clare's Health System and Compassionate Care Hospice are partnering on a new inpatient hospice program at Saint Clare's Hospital/Sussex. The joint venture, the only program of its kind in the greater Sussex area, was announced by officials from both organizations today.

"We are very pleased to add hospice service care to our continuum of care here at Saint Clare's Hospital/Sussex," noted Stephen Bocskocsky, vice president for Saint Clare's Hospital's Sussex campus. "This new program will help comfort patients and family members who are going through difficult times, all in a setting that is pleasant, spiritual and private."

Bocskoscky noted that the new unit combines the most important elements of hospice home care techniques with inpatient hospital care specialties in a soothing and tranquil environment. Staff members are specially trained in hospice care techniques and the unit is separate and distinct from the main hospital. Compassionate Care Hospice employees provide management and patient/family programming.

"Compassionate Care is pleased with the opportunity to partner with the Sussex campus of Saint Clare's Hospital on hospice care services," noted Judith Grey, coordinator of the program. "Our approach in helping patients and families to deal with end-of-life issues is unique, and the addition of the hospital as a place to provide care and comfort for those in this situation will be a soothing benefit for people of this region faced with terminal illnesses."

In addition to staff training and nutritional enhancements specific to hospice patients and their families, Saint Clare's and Compassionate Care also partnered in altering the physical appearance of the unit to better accommodate patients admitted to the program.  Spiritual programming has also been enhanced, along with the addition of specific meditation and family gathering areas and the installation of more home-like furnishings, bed linens and related comfort items.

"Adding hospice care to our hospital's offerings is another way that Saint Clare's is seeking to address the complete healthcare needs of the residents in the greater Sussex area," added Bocskocsky.

Compassionate Care provides hospice services throughout New Jersey. For more information on Compassionate Care Hospice at their new services at the Sussex campus of Saint Clare's Hospital, call 1-866-STCLARE (1-866-782-5273) or visit www.saintcares.org
