Pulmonary Rehabilitation
What may begin as a persistent, annoying cough or increasing shortness of breath could progress over time into a disabling condition that limits the ability to perform daily tasks and slowly robs the enjoyment of life. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Saint Clare's offers the most comprehensive program in northwestern New Jersey and is the only facility in the region designed for and dedicated to pulmonary rehabilitation. The Center, which is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), offers a full range of services including ongoing education, support, exercise and maintenance programs.
After a comprehensive evaluation, pulmonary rehabilitation patients participate in two-hour individual and group sessions, which meet two to three times per week, for a total of 20 sessions. Each session includes one hour of education and open discussion and one hour of supervised exercise.
To participate in the program, patients must be referred by their primary care physician. Patient insurance companies may require pre-approval. Medicare and most insurance companies will cover up to 80 percent of pulmonary rehabilitation charges under the major medical portion of their coverage. Any co-pays are the responsibility of the patient. Patients should contact their insurance carrier to determine the level of coverage.
