Psychosocial Counseling & Support Groups

Specially trained oncology social workers are available to address individual patient and family needs. In addition to one-on-one sessions, they also coordinate a number of group activities. Cancer Care offers an extensive list of support groups, designed to offer moral, emotional, and informational support to cancer patients and survivors, their caregivers, and families.

Psychosocial Counseling
Psychosocial counseling is available for patients and families undergoing treatment for cancer at Cancer Care at Saint Clare's.

Children's Groups
Saint Clare's offers several support group programs for children, including a unique group that allows children, ages 6-12, to learn coping skills through expressive therapies. This group meets as needed for eight weekly sessions.

Wigs and Accessories
Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s collaborates with the American Cancer Society to provide the American Cancer Society Wigs and Accessories program. The program provides wigs, head coverings, and turbans to women free of charge. Classes are held at 7 Ridgedale Ave., Suite 103, Cedar Knolls, NJ. Call 1-800-227-2345 for class times and to make an appointment.

Nutritional Counseling
Patients who are receiving treatment for cancer often experience dietary and nutritional issues. To help prepare for and cope with such problems, Saint Clare’s nutritional counselors and registered dieticians are available for initial consultation and ongoing follow up to all cancer patients.  To make an appointment please call 973-625-6634.

Patient Resource Library - Coming Soon!
Located in the lobby of Cancer Care, the Patient Resource Library provides access to the latest research and patient information via a multimedia lending library. Find information about hospital and community resources as well as information about specific diagnoses. Resource Navigators are available to help patients and their families navigate through the multiple resources they’ll need throughout their cancer journey.

Resource Navigation
Resource navigation is a signature program offered by the American Cancer Society. The program connects patients with a resource navigator at their treatment center, allowing patients can speak one-on-one with a resource navigator about their situation. All American Cancer Society resource navigators are trained to help cancer patients find the answers and information they need most.

Center for Complementary Medicine
Imagine an entire health center devoted to ensuring you walk away relaxed and healthier. The Center for Complementary Medicine at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Dover embodies the healing therapies of spa as well as the medical expertise that only a health system can offer.  Everyday stress and illness can take a toll on your body. The Center for Complementary Medicine can relax your mind and body with the many services offered including massage therapy, mind and body therapies, acupuncture and pre- and post-natal maternity services. Bereavement Group
An eight week support group for adult family members and friends who have lost a loved on to cancer.  Available Wednesday 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the Urban 2 Conference Room at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Denville (25 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ).   Must pre-register, please call 973-625-6176

Complementary Medicine Program at Cancer Care
Services provided include massage therapy, therapeutic touch, and reflexology. Available Wednesday 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s (23 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ).  No appointment needed.  Services at Cancer Care are free to patients

Gentle Yoga
A group class that combines physical postures, breathing exercises and gentle stretching to lessen common discomforts while simultaneously strengthening the body and the mind. Available Monday 5-6pm and Tuesday 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Dover (400 West Blackwell Street Dover, NJ) on the 4th floor in conference room A.  No appointment needed.  $15

Head and Neck Support Group
An ongoing support group providing education and support to patients coping with cancer of the head and neck, as well as their friends and family. Held the second Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s (23 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ). Call 973-625-6176 for more information.

Living with Cancer
A support group to provide emotional and social support to anyone touched by cancer. Held the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1 – 2 p.m. at Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s (23 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ). Call  973-625-6176 for more information

Look Good...Feel Better
American Cancer Society offers Look Good...Feel Better, a free, national public service program that helps women cancer patients improve their appearance and self-image by teaching them hands on beauty techniques to manage the appearance side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.   Must pre-register, please call 1-800-ACS-2345 (1-800-227-2345).

Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association  (ThyCa)
A national ongoing support group for people with thyroid cancer, as well as their friends and family. Held the third Thursday of each month from 7p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s (23 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ). Call  973-625-6176 for more information.

Water Wellness Program
An 8-week exercise and education program offered to breast cancer patients who are 6-24 months post surgery. The program teaches exercises appropriate post surgery, increases range of motion and offers support.  Held on Tuesday from 12:45 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the Randolph YMCA (14 Dover Chester Road  Randolph, NJ).  Must pre-register, please call 973-625-6176.

Women Helping Women: Tackling Cancer Together
A monthly support group for women coping with gynecological and/or breast cancers.  Held the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7-8:30pm in the Silby Cafeteria at Saint Clare’s Hospital (25 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ).   Call 973-625-6176 for more information.
