Saint Clare's Earns Horizon Recognition Award for Quality, Patient Safety

DENVILLE, NJ – May 29, 2013 –
Saint Clare’s Health System earned the highest recognition as a top performer from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (BCBSNJ), as a result of the quality and safety of clinical care provided to patients.  Saint Clare’s was presented a check for $250,000 as a result of this recognition, the highest award available from Horizon, which was based on results from the independent study by Leapfrog.  Saint Clare’s Hospital was recognized as a “top performer” hospital in New Jersey, and in the top percentile nationally.

The financial award was provided under Horizon BCBSNJ's Hospital Recognition Program, which acknowledges network hospitals that demonstrate high quality and safe patient outcomes and resource efficiency in numerous clinical focus areas.

The program results are based on surveys by The Leapfrog Group, a Washington, D.C.-based coalition working to improve the safety, quality and affordability of health care. Earlier this month, The Leapfrog Group gave Saint Clare’s Hospitals in Denville and Dover an "A" grade, which it has earned in each of the three releases of the Hospital Safety Scores, an objective measure based on publicly reported data regarding patient injuries, medical and medication errors and infections.   Saint Clare’s Hospitals in Denville and Dover were the only hospitals in Morris County to be recognized with an “A” grade.

"Horizon's recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication that Saint Clare’s has to quality and safety for our patients," said Leslie D. Hirsch, President and CEO of Saint Clare’s Health System. "It is due to the efforts of every physician, nurse, staff and –other members of our patient care team that we have earned these quality recognitions.  We are very proud of the outstanding care that Saint Clare's provides to our community."
Horizon BCBSNJ initiated the Hospital Recognition Program in 2006 to promote safe, high-quality and effective hospital care.
