Saint Clare’s Emergency Departments Fully Electronic

October 24, 2011

Saint Clare’s Health System announced they now have a paperless electronic health record system in their emergency departments. The new system improves patient care by expediting charting, minimizing the potential for errors, and enhancing communications among caregivers.

Prior to the new technology, Saint Clare’s was already using an electronic system to manage the patient experience from registration to discharge and to enter medication orders, tests, and procedures directly into a computer system.

With this new technology in place, Saint Clare’s Health System is the first health system within Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), its parent organization, to have a fully electronic emergency department.

The electronic technology is part of a larger CHI program called OneCare that Saint Clare’s is participating in to create a shared, universal electronic health record for every patient. Over the next year, Saint Clare’s will introduce this system across each of its departments. With easier access to medical records, physicians and staff can create a safer and more efficient visit for patients.

“We have made a long-standing commitment to the people in the communities we serve to care for them to the best of our ability.  The OneCare program is another step we are taking to fulfill this commitment,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, president and chief executive officer at Saint Clare’s Health System.

“The system will provide comprehensive, reliable, accessible and timely medical information at every touch point, thereby improving the overall patient experience.”
