Saint Clare’s Gears Up for Annual Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness

Team Captain and Committee Recruitment Event Kicks Off Efforts for Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness, To Be Held September 18, 2011
The Saint Clare’s Foundation geared up for the 2011 Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness with a kick-off breakfast meeting, beginning committee recruitment efforts for its annual fundraising event which supports breast cancer diagnosis and treatment at Saint Clare’s Health System. This year’s Walk, sponsored by title sponsor ADD Systems, presenting sponsor TD Bank, and media sponsor WMTR/WDHA, promises to be an overwhelming success.
On February 25, 2011, the Foundation welcomed 35 participants to its Walk Kick-off Breakfast, including guest speakers, Dr. Donald Cann, a radiation oncologist at Cancer Care at Saint Clare’s who also serves as medical director of Radiation Oncology, who spoke regarding recent news in breast cancer, and Vernon Pertelle, Saint Clare’s vice president of clinical operations.
“We are thankful to all those who have so generously supported Saint Clare’s in our efforts to put breast cancer on the run, directly benefiting the health of women in our area,” said Pertelle. “We encourage the community to begin participating now through sponsorship opportunities or by forming a team and collecting donations.”
Also speaking at the event were Karen Bott-Kelly, Team Captain of Team ADD Systems, who provided tips on how she has created Saint Clare’s Walk’s “Top Team”, as well as Walk Committee Co-Chairs Nancy McKinley, station manager at WMTR/WDHA, and Donita Judge, Esq., Saint Clare’s Foundation Board Member, who spoke of their appreciation to all attendees and their honor of being this year’s Walk co-chairs.

In 2010, there were more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Saint Clare’s Foundation seeks to help increase this number through its annual Walk. Over the past nine years, the Walk has succeeded in raising $769,000 gross in support of Cancer Care programs and services at Saint Clare's Health System. The 2011 Walk, which marks the tenth year of this special event, will take place on September 18, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rockaway, NJ.
