Saint Clare's Health System Board of Trustees Names New Chair
Infectious Disease Specialist Assumes Leadership of System’s Governing Body
Solidifying Saint Clare’s Health System as northwestern New Jersey’s leading community health system, Saint Clare’s recently announced the appointment of Edward J. McManus, M.D., a leading infectious disease specialist, as the Chair of the system’s Board of Trustees. Dr. McManus assumes the leadership of the board immediately.

Hirsch, president and chief executive officer of Saint Clare’s Health System. “His expertise in healthcare, his work as part of the Saint Clare’s medical staff, and his work within our communities will provide a firm foundation as we continue to expand programs and services, enhance technology, and advance Saint Clare’s for the benefit of the community.”
Dr. McManus has been a member of the Saint Clare’s Medical Staff since 1989, and is the immediate past president of this group over 700 dedicated clinical professionals. Currently, he also serves the Vice President of ID Associates, P.A./ID Care, Inc., an infectious disease specialty practice with offices in Hillsborough, Cedar Knolls, Somerset and Randolph.
Born in New York City and raised in Bergen County, NJ, McManus graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University in 1978. He earned his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School in 1982. He completed his internal medicine residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI in 1985, and was selected as Chief Medical Resident the following year.
Before going into private practice, McManus served as a clinical fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1986 through 1989. He has been an Infectious Diseases consultant in private practice since 1989. Dr. McManus was board certified in Internal Medicine in 1985 and Infectious Diseases in 1988. He is a consulting physician at Saint Clare’s Hospital/Denville and Saint Clare’s Hospital/Dover.
“It is a distinct honor to serve Saint Clare’s in this capacity,” said Dr. McManus. “Saint Clare’s has been such a large part of my medical career here in New Jersey, and I appreciate the opportunity to serve. I look forward to leading the Board and working closely with Les Hirsch, the executive leadership team and the entire Saint Clare’s family as we look to take Saint Clare’s to an even higher level of service and care to our community.”
Dr. McManus is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care, Infectious Disease Society of America and the Medical Society of New Jersey. Dr. McManus and his wife, Ann, reside in Chester, NJ.
