Saint Clare's Health System Offers Dial-up Seminar on Radiation Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer

Free series, Strong and Smart: Living Well With Cancer, supports cancer survivors, patients
Community members can learn about treatment for prostate cancer at 1 p.m. ET on September 21. To register for the free one-hour educational event, call 800-278-7837.
Radiation Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer is part of the Strong and Smart: Living Well With Cancer dial-up seminar series. Participants listen via phone, view presentations online and ask questions of presenting experts.
The September seminar will cover:
- External beam radiation therapies
- Brachytherapy radiation options
- Side effects and outcomes of radiation
- Surgery, watchful waiting and hormonal therapy with emphasis on radiation as definitive treatment
Presenters Dr. Donald Cann and Dr. Timothy Chen are radiation oncologists at Saint Clare’s Health System. Dr. Cann has worked in radiation oncology for more than 20 years. Among his published works are “A parameter optimization algorithm for intensity-modulated radiotherapy prostate treatment planning.” Dr. Chen has worked in radiation oncology since 1995 and has spoken at a number of conferences and meetings about a range of topics related to cancer treatments.
“There are a variety of treatment options for prostate cancer,” said Deirdre Cahill, Saint Clare’s Health System executive director, oncology and radiology. “During this seminar, patients can learn more about the different types of radiation therapy that might be a good fit for them, as well as learn about the side effects of radiation.”
The Strong and Smart: Living Well With Cancer dial-up seminar series is presented by Saint Clare’s Health System. This education series is offered in collaboration with other Catholic Health Initiatives hospitals. A goal of the series is to make education and information more readily available to a greater number of cancer patients in our community.
