The Weight Loss Surgery Seminar is presented by Saint Clare’s Health System’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery and the My Program for Life bariatric program, in an effort to educate prospective patients on bariatric surgery. The event will feature a Saint Clare’s panel of experienced surgeons, as well as guest speaker, Miggy Cancel, a contestant from Season 9 of NBC’s popular TV series, The Biggest Loser.
Cancel will speak at the seminar about her weight loss journey and how she motivates herself to stay fit. She will also be available to sign autographs and answer questions.
Saint Clare’s bariatric surgery team, including Dr. Alexander D. Abkin, Dr. Nicholas A. Bertha, Dr. Jordan Garrison, and Dr. Vincent Iannace, will be available to answer questions related to weight loss surgery. All four “Top Docs” for NJ Gastric Bypass Surgery, NJ Lap Band Surgery and NJ Bariatric Surgery, have performed more than 4,000 laparoscopic procedures.
Morbid obesity is a life-threatening disease that affects over 15 million people in America. A landmark study published in the October 2004 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that bariatric surgery improved or resolved type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and high cholesterol in the vast majority of morbidly obese patients.
