ADVANCE for Nurses Newsmagazine Announces Readers’ Choice Hospital List, Ranks Saint Clare’s Among Select “Top Hospitals”
ADVANCE for Nurses newsmagazine announced Saint Clare’s Health System is among the select “top hospitals” in the magazine’s fourth annual Readers’ Choice survey for the Greater New York/New Jersey Metro Area.
Voting was open to RNs who ranked a selected hospital in areas that matter to nurses: quality of care, organizational culture, professional development, communication and retention efforts. Saint Clare’s scored highly in all categories.
ADVANCE provided a list of 291 hospitals in the Greater New York/New Jersey Metro Area and invited readers to rank their facility by responding on a 1-5 scale to 10 statements in five different categories. From this list, participants voted on 69 different hospitals.
A minimum number of three participants had to vote on a hospital in order for it to be part of the calculations; three hospitals made that cut. ADVANCE then took the total score for each question and determined the average score per hospital per category. The highest possible average score was 5. A total of three hospitals in the Readers’ Choice list earned an overall average score of at least 3; of those, one — Saint Clare’s — scored at least 4.
“Since this survey was completed by nurses judging their own facilities, this ranking is a testament to our nursing staff’s satisfaction and to the culture of our nursing within Saint Clare’s. We are extremely proud and grateful to receive this honor for the second consecutive year. This recognition affirms that Saint Clare’s continues to lead the way among area hospitals in creating a positive work environment for our professional nursing staff,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Clare’s Health System.
Saint Clare’s nursing program is currently working to achieve Magnet designation, an award given by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC), an affiliate of the American Nurses Association, to hospitals that satisfy a set of criteria designed to measure the strength and quality of their nursing.
“Earning this placement as an ADVANCE for Nurses Reader’s Choice hospital is a great achievement for our nursing program, especially as we move forward this year with our journey to achieve Magnet designation,” said Suellyn Ellerbe, RN, MN, NEA-BC, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Offiicer of Saint Clare’s Health System. “The dedication and resilience of our nursing staff is truly inspiring.”
“Hospitals are in a unique moment in time. The challenges in healthcare have never been as daunting in my 30-year career as they are now. But what I see in the future are incredible opportunities for nurses to expand their roles as leaders,” Ellerbe said.
