Girls Rule is a delinquency prevention program for girls in Morris and Sussex Counties, between 12 and 17, that is designed to empower young women to make healthy and safe decisions about their future.
Participants receive a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, referral for specialized services as needed, and case management. Individual sessions are used to help girls develop future goals in all aspects of their lives, including health, family, social functioning, academics and spirituality. A 13-week group of peers focuses on information and education on healthy and safe relationships, activities that improve self-esteem, and social support development.
This program focuses on issues that impact girls:
- how the media affects our self-image
- self-esteem
- making and keeping friends
- establishing independence
- healthy sexuality
- finding support
- planning for the future
Girls Rule is not a series of lectures. Girls participate in games, discussions, role-playing, and creative projects. Parents and guardians are invited to monthly special events that include career, relationship and cultural nights.
